Guaranteed Because He Is Faithful

Hebrews 10:23
"Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for
he is faithful that promised;)"
INTRODUCTION: WHEN GUARANTEES FAIL

Church, we are living in a time when the word “guarantee” doesn’t
mean what it used to mean.

Products come with “limited warranties.”
Contracts have hidden clauses.
Politicians make promises that expire after Election Day.
Relationships begin with “I’ll never leave you,” and end with
silence and blocked phone numbers.

We live in a fragile world where nothing seems secure.

Banks collapse.
Companies downsize.
Homes that took decades to build can be lost in months.
And even our own emotions can betray us — confident one day,
discouraged the next.

We have learned not to trust guarantees.

But I stopped by to declare this morning that there is one
guarantee that has never been recalled, never been revised,
never been rescinded — and that is the guarantee of Almighty
God.

Hebrews 10:23 does not anchor us in our strength.
It does not anchor us in our discipline.
It does not anchor us in our consistency.

It anchors us in His faithfulness.

The text says:

“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for
he is faithful that promised).”
Not because we are faithful.
But because He is faithful.

And that changes everything.

BACKGROUND & CONTEXT: A CHURCH UNDER PRESSURE

Now let’s step into the world of Hebrews.

This letter was written to Jewish believers who had come to faith
in Jesus Christ. But their conversion came with a cost.

They were ostracized by family.
They were excluded from synagogue life.
Some had their property confiscated.
Some were imprisoned.
Many were publicly humiliated.

Following Jesus was not popular. It was dangerous.

And because of that pressure, some were considering going back.
Going back to the old system. Going back to what was
comfortable. Going back to what was socially accepted.

The entire book of Hebrews argues one central truth:

Jesus is better.

Better than angels.
Better than Moses.
Better than the priesthood.
Better than the old covenant.

And in chapter 10, after explaining Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice,
the writer shifts from theology to exhortation.

Because doctrine must produce endurance.

He says, since Jesus has opened a new and living way…
Since we have boldness to enter the holiest by His blood…
Since we have a High Priest over the house of God…

Let us hold fast.

In other words:
Don’t quit now.
Don’t fold under pressure.
Don’t let go of what heaven has secured.

And the reason?

“For He is faithful that promised.”

POINT I: THE COMMAND TO HOLD FAST

“Let us hold fast…”

This phrase means to cling firmly. To grip tightly. To refuse to
release.

It implies resistance.

You don’t “hold fast” unless something is trying to make you let
go.

And church, let’s be honest — life applies pressure.

Pressure from culture that calls righteousness outdated.
Pressure from social media that amplifies doubt.
Pressure from financial instability.
Pressure from health diagnoses.
Pressure from unanswered prayers.

The writer does not pretend pressure isn’t real.
He says, in spite of it — HOLD FAST.

Modern Illustration

A few years ago, during a wildfire rescue, a firefighter was
carrying a small child through heavy smoke. Visibility was nearly
zero. Debris was falling. The building was unstable. But that
firefighter did not loosen his grip.

Why?

Because the child’s survival depended on the strength of that hold.

And I came to tell somebody — your survival depends on your
spiritual grip.

Hold fast when the doctor’s report shakes you.
Hold fast when your child makes choices you don’t understand.
Hold fast when layoffs hit your company.
Hold fast when prayer feels quiet.

Because letting go is not an option for those who know who holds
tomorrow.

POINT II: THE PROFESSION OF OUR HOPE

“…the profession of our faith…”

The word profession means confession — public declaration.

Faith is not silent belief. It is spoken allegiance.

These believers had openly confessed Jesus as Messiah. That
confession cost them socially, economically, and religiously.

And in our day, confession still costs something.

It may cost you promotion.
It may cost you popularity.
It may cost you being politically correct.

But faith that never speaks is faith that never stands.

Modern Illustration

Think about athletes during championship season. They don’t hide
their team jerseys when rivals are around. They wear them boldly.
They declare their allegiance proudly.
They declare their allegiance proudly.

In a culture that normalizes everything except holiness, we are called to wear Christ publicly.

When your coworkers gossip, your confession shows in restraint.
When ethics are compromised, your confession shows in integrity.
When fear dominates conversations, your confession shows in hope.

And here’s the key phrase:

“Without wavering.”

That means no spiritual mood swings.

Not saved on Sunday and silent on Monday.
Not bold in church but timid in culture.

Without wavering.

Steady when trends shift.
Steady when theology is challenged.
Steady when society evolves.

Because hope is not rooted in culture — it is rooted in Christ.

POINT III: HE IS FAITHFUL THAT PROMISED

Here is the foundation.
“For He is faithful…”

The text does not say:

Because you are disciplined.
Because you are strong.
Because you are consistent.

It says because He is faithful.

God’s faithfulness means:

He cannot lie.
He cannot fail.
He cannot forget.

From Genesis to Revelation, His record is perfect.

He promised Abraham a son — and Isaac was born.
He promised Israel deliverance — and the Red Sea opened.
He promised David a kingdom — and the throne endured.
He promised a Messiah — and Jesus came.
He promised resurrection — and the grave was defeated.

And if He kept those promises…
He will keep the ones He made to you.

Modern Illustration

We live in a time of digital agreements. You click “I agree” to
terms you never read. And sometimes companies change policies without warning.

But God has never updated His covenant.

His promises are not subject to revision.

When He said “I will never leave you nor forsake you,”
He meant through layoffs.

Through divorce.
Through chemotherapy.
Through grief.
Through depression.

Faithful.

When He said “All things work together for good,”
He meant even this season.

Faithful.

When He said “Nothing shall separate you from the love of God,”
He meant nothing.

Faithful.

And here’s the shouting truth:

God has a 100% fulfillment rate.

Not one promise has bounced.
Not one covenant has defaulted.
Not one word has fallen to the ground.

He is faithful that promised.

CELEBRATION CLOSE: HOLD ON — HELP IS GUARANTEED

So what do we do?
We hold fast.
Not because the storm isn’t raging —
But because the Anchor is secure.

Not because we never feel weak —
But because His strength is perfect in weakness.

Not because life is predictable —
But because God is dependable.

I hear the Spirit saying to somebody this morning:

Don’t you dare quit now.
Don’t you release your grip.
Don’t you surrender your confession.

If God brought you through the last storm,
He’ll bring you through this one.

If He healed you before,
He can heal you again.

If He opened doors before,
He can open them again.

If He kept your mind in the last crisis,
He’ll keep it now.

Because He is faithful that promised.

Can I get a witness in here?

If you know He’s faithful — say YES!
If He’s kept you when you almost let go — say YES!
If He’s made ways out of no ways — say YES!

Hold fast!

Your tears are temporary.
Your trial is temporary.
Your pressure is temporary.

But His faithfulness is permanent.

And when everything else collapses —
When systems fail —
When people disappoint —
When resources dry up —
The guarantee still stands.
He is faithful.
And because He is faithful…

We will not waver.
We will not retreat.
We will not surrender.
We will hold fast.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.
